Horcane Furniture is a family-run business established in 1969. We specialised in custom made Rattan and Cane furniture and also good in making Bar Counters. In the 1960s and 1970s, most of our furniture were shipped to Europe and the United States. During those days, orders were plentiful in Singapore because we were still a developing country. Among our many clients, one of them shipped between 100 and 200 pieces of rattan and cane furniture to the United Kingdom and United States every 6 months through us.

During those times, we did not have any factory but just a rented wooden house. All the cane processing were by hands – it is a necessary process before it can be made into any furniture. (I will post the picture of the place once i got the photo)

In the 1980s, some of our production work were shifted to Malaysia. This was because business costs in Singapore were getting more expensive. Furthermore, the emphasis then was very much on the electronic sector. During this time, we were affected by the overall business environment and resulted in reduction of orders from overseas.

We had no choice but to change our business model. We then moved to our current factory (at Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 1) and cut down on manpower. We also outsourced the cane processing to Indonesia and started to do our own marketing.

Today, we bring in canes which have already been processed and fumigated. New tools are introduced to further reduce the manpower and increase the production rate.

Expatriates have now become our main clientele. By word of mouth, many came to our factory direct. We customised furniture to their needs and also provided ideas to further beautify their homes. Many of them even brought back their furniture when they were relocating back to their own countries.

SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) like us have to work even harder to innovate and improve our skills. We now not only are good in Rattan and Cane furniture, we are able to custom make other built-in cabinet for Kitchen, Wardrobe, Study Desk and TV Console. In addition, We are also specialised in Antique repair, Teak

(with netting seat make of wicker) and Rosewood furniture.

Our new Bar counter now looks like this – a combination of Rattan, Timber, Granite and Brass, We also created an all new gen Bar built-in to suit any apartments or houses.
